Suicide Prevention in Jefferson County
In October 2019 individuals representing a variety of professions including human services, mental health, physical health, legislation, higher education, public health, law enforcement, youth and older adult-focused initiatives, community-based organizations and more, gathered to discuss suicide prevention in our community.
After reviewing available local data, participants collaboratively identified areas of opportunity for expanded collaborative efforts as 1) Postvention, 2) Coordination of Care, 3) Policy, and 4) Primary Prevention and Root Cause.
Postvention refers to offering support for survivors of a suicide attempt or a loss. Our Postvention Work Group identified that consistent support is necessary for various groups including, but not limited to, loss survivors, attempt survivors, and friends and family members of attempt survivors. Our first task is to learn from our partners in Jefferson, Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties as to what resource lists and guides exist.
Would you be willing to complete this short survey to share information about postvention resources, lists, and/or guides that your organization/system currently uses when offering postvention support? We will be collecting information through December 13th; then all collected information will be reviewed to identify areas for opportunity and discuss interest and next steps for compiling a comprehensive, consistent guide available for all of our systems to use.
The October Suicide Prevention Summit was not intended to be a final product, but rather a launching point. We look forward to continuing the momentum and discussion in each of these priority areas to push efforts forward and support our community!
If you know others who may be interested in sharing information through this survey, please feel welcome to forward this email.
