Stress Relief for Tactics for W.I.N.T.E.R

health and wellness

We have entered the month of December: shorter days, and for many, a stressful holiday season.  It’s very common for people to experience seasonal stress, anxiety, and depression.  It’s more common than not.

Everyone’s symptoms can be different, but some of the most common symptoms of too much stress include: difficulty sleeping, feeling overwhelmed, physical ailments (sore neck or back, stomachaches, headaches), and difficulty focusing and remember things.

One tool that can help with the season stress is a helpful acronym:  W.I.N.T.E.R

W:  Write.  The simple act of writing something down like to do lists, shopping lists, planning lists, etc., increases the likelihood you will remember what it was.

I: Invest.  It is the “season of giving” for many people but don’t forget to invest in yourself as well!

N: No.  “No” is a complete sentence. During this busy time of year, take some time to figure out what is realistic for you, even if it’s all fun stuff, sometimes it can become a burden. Do you struggle with saying “No?”  Here is a great resource full of scripts:  https://gonaturalenglish.com/how-to-say-no-politely/

T:  Think realistically.  Realistic thinking means looking at all aspects of a situation (the positive, the negative, and the neutral) before drawing a conclusion. It’s easy to let the hype of having to “do it all” tip the stress scales so perceived demands outweigh perceived resources.

E: Exercise. It seems silly to constantly repeat this one, but exercise is a really great way to reduce stress levels.  Cortisol and adrenaline are combatted by the endorphins that are released when you exercise. Those endorphins act as an analgesic so they can dull pain brought on by stress and can act like a sedative to help with achieving good sleep.

R:  Rest. You don't have to wait until you are exhausted to rest and relax. You are not a machine! Take time to sit down, relax, and recharge to reduce stress.

Colorado Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 winter season.

The LEAP program works to keep our communities warm during the winter (November through April) by providing assistance with heating costs, equipment repair and/or replacement of inoperable heating tools. While the program is not intended to pay the entire cost of home heating, it aims to help alleviate some of the burdens that come with Colorado's colder months.

The Project on Predatory Student Lending

Over the past several decades, millions of students borrowed federal student loans to attend various for-profit colleges, including ITT Technical Institute, Corinthian Colleges, the Art Institutes, Salter College, Brooks Institute of Photography, and more. The schools falsely promised students high-paying jobs, state-of-the-art vocational training, and long and fulfilling careers. Individuals who borrowed student loans to attend colleges like these (full list in link below) are entitled to 100% reimbursement!

To learn more visit: www.ppsl.org and speak with your coach to see if you qualify for loan forgiveness.
