April is National Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Awareness Month. This campaign, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is an effort to counter the nation’s high rates of STIs. Did you know? The United States currently has one of the highest rates of STIs among all countries in the developed world. In 2018, the CDC released that 1 in 5 people in the U.S. had a sexually transmitted infection.
JCPH clinic providers offer sexual health assessment, counseling and cost-effective services for community members. Clinic services are confidential, nonjudgmental and available to all teens and adults. Most services are provided on a sliding-fee scale based on your household income. Welcome Hilda Gehrke – New Board of Health MemberIn February 2022, the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners appointed Hilda Gehrke as the newest member to the Jefferson County Board of Health. The Board of Health is the governing agency for Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH).
Hilda is an experienced community leader who has elevated Jefferson County community voices in health and well-being, particularly in the Latinx community. A graduate with a B.S. in Psychology from Regis University, she completed her training as an Ontological Coach from Newfield Network, INC in 2017. Since then, she has built a business as a life coach and has been actively involved in public health efforts throughout the pandemic to ensure equitable access to services within the Latinx community. Welcome, Hilda!

Celebrating Our Public Health ChampionsEach year, JCPH recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations in our community that went above and beyond in the previous year to help keep our community safe and healthy. JCPH Warns of Potential Hepatitis A ExposureJefferson County Public Health (JCPH), in collaboration with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), is advising the public about a potential exposure to hepatitis A at the King Soopers located at 5301 W. 38th Avenue in Wheat Ridge, Colo. A food handler at this location has tested positive for hepatitis A, a disease which could be transmitted by eating food directly handled by this employee.
Consumers may be at risk of exposure if they purchased AND consumed deli meats and/or cheeses sliced onsite at the deli (or consumed onsite-prepared sandwiches containing deli meats and/or cheeses) from this King Soopers location. The affected dates of purchase are March 20-30, 2022. See full release for more information. |

Learn How to Have Difficult Conversations with YouthJefferson County’s Communities that Care, Jeffco Public Schools and Jefferson County Public Health's Tobacco Prevention Initiative are offering two workshops during the 2021-2022 school year for parents, guardians and caregivers. During the workshops, participants will learn practical skills for building trust and having difficult conversations with youth about alcohol, marijuana, vaping and other substances.
