Arvada: important steps toward a more sustainable city

From Scraps, a local composting company

Another big change from June: the City of Arvada became the largest city in Colorado to have an organized waste hauling system! This means that instead of allowing NINE different private trash/recycling hauling companies on the road, and requiring residents to contract with whomever they choose, the city is moving to a one truck / one street, municipally-organized approach. This ordinance will cut down on vehicle emissions and noise, reduce wear and tear on roads, and reduce the overall cost of trash hauling for residents, while also providing curbside recycling to each resident at no additional cost.  Households will pay for trash based on the size of the cart that they use, and those who produce less trash will pay less - a system otherwise known as pay as you throw. Bonus: we are gathering names of folks interested in composting in Arvada, getting ready to add our service in this lovely city (where our founder lives!). Please let us know if you'd be interested!
