Happy 1st full week of summer JPP! You have all earned a well-deserved break and we hope you can utilize some of your time to rest, relax, and reconnect. Summer is a wonderful way to create new healthy habits that help you become more of the person you want to be. So, keep looking for those opportunities - they're everywhere!

Now that summer is here, hopefully that means as parents, we can take a collective deep breathe. Give your self the time and space to refill your cup that has been pouring endlessly for the past few months. Honor yourself and all of the hard work you have done. We know your jobs have not been easy and you are worthy of self-compassion and love.

Ivan O. - 2020 graduate!! Ivan will be attending Colorado Mesa University in the fall and studying business and design. We are so proud of you Ivan, and wish you all the best in college!! Keep going on your journey, we are behind you!

Richie P. is another 2020 graduate who will be attending Northeastern College this fall for Fire Science. Richie's dream is to become a Fire Fighter. Congratulations on all of your hard work these past 4 years!! We know college will help you continue on your pathway to success.

Jeff W. graduated this year from Early College of Arvada. Jeff is looking at attending Community College int he Jeffco area. Congratulations on this huge milestone Jeff, we are here to support you along the rest of your journey and can't see where you go!

Mom-Shaming Ourselves

To compare is human, even during a pandemic.

"At its core, comparison is an essential part of being human (or of being an animal, for there’s evidence that monkeys compare themselves to one another, too). There’s a body of research about what psychologists call “social comparison,” or the comparison of one’s self to others. Researchers have described social comparison as “a fundamental psychological mechanism influencing people’s judgments, experiences and behavior.” During health scares, the need for social comparison increases, because the future isn’t clear and there are “no objective standards of how to cope,” researchers have found. In other words, we look to our peers even more intensely to figure out how we’re supposed to behave and what we’re supposed to feel." JeffCo Free Legal Clinic

Despite the COVID-19 closures of libraries across Colorado, the Virtual Pro Se Clinic (VPC) clinics are still being held as scheduled. We're able to keep clinic patrons safe and still provide much-need legal assistance because our volunteer attorneys already work remotely. As a work-around, instead of clinic patrons coming in-person to your local public library (which is closed), the volunteer attorney will call each clinic patron's telephone directly, during the clinic hours, using the phone number provided. Although VPC clinic patrons will see a slight shift in how our free legal support is delivered, they should experience no significant disruption in service.
