Flu season is here, and Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) urges everyone 6 months and older to get an influenza vaccine. With COVID-19 still circulating in our community, it’s more important than ever to protect yourself and your loved ones from the flu. Both flu and COVID-19 are contagious respiratory viruses. It’s possible to get sick with both, and each virus can have dangerous complications. The good news is that you can get your flu vaccine and your COVID-19 vaccine – including boosters and additional doses – at the same time. Both flu vaccination and COVID-19 vaccines are readily and widely available in our community, including at the JCPH clinic in Lakewood at 645 Parfet Street. In addition, many COVID-19 vaccine mobile clinics in our community will be offering COVID-19 vaccinations. Visit www.vaccinefinder.org to find a location to get a flu shot near you, or visit www.jeffco.us/vaccinesignup to find out about locations offering both COVID-19 and flu vaccines. Together, Dr. Margaret Huffman Director of Community Health Services Jefferson County Public Health

Talk with Teens about MarijuanaUse of marijuana during the teen years results in damage to the teen’s rapidly developing brain and can result in impaired cognitive function. Plus, the younger a person starts using marijuana, the more likely they are to use harmful substances later in life. Ask your teen questions like, “Does anything worry you about marijuana use for teens your age? What about in terms of addiction or messing with brain development?”
