Improvements to the next section of McIntyre Street between West 58th Avenue and West 60th Avenue will begin in early October 2019 and continue through spring 2020. Jefferson County and Concrete Express Inc. (CEI) will construct an additional travel lane in each direction with on-street bike lanes, turn lanes and a raised center median. The new configuration is part of the continuous, four-lane corridor planned between West 52nd Avenue and West 60th Avenue. Other project improvements include:
- Lowering the hill between West 58th Avenue and West 60th Avenue more than four feet to improve sight distance and meet current design standards.
- Upgrading the existing traffic signal at West 60th Avenue.
- Placing curb, gutter and 8-foot sidewalks.
- Installing new street lights at West 58th Avenue.
The project will be built in phases in order to minimize traffic impacts. The contractor will first reconstruct the west side McIntyre Street where private utility relocation work is underway.
Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures with alternating traffic for equipment access and construction adjacent to the roadway. Lane closures will mostly be limited to off-peak hours (8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Occasional weekend work and extended hours are possible. The project is weather-dependent and the schedule is subject to change.
A speed limit reduction to 25 mph will be enforced. Fines are double within the work zone.
Project Background
McIntyre Street is a major regional transportation facility through Jefferson County. This $3.37-million road improvement project will complete a portion of the improvements required to bring McIntyre Street up to minor arterial standard between West 52nd Avenue and West 60th Avenue. The first two phases of widening are complete. Construction on the final two-lane section between West 52nd Avenue and West 56th Avenue is anticipated to begin in spring 2020.
