National Public Lands DayClear Creek Canyon Park, Golden CO
Jefferson County Open Space, in coordination with Colorado Department of Transportation, have combined efforts to close U.S. 6, in Golden, through Clear Creek Canyon Park from 7:00 AM – 1:30 PM on Saturday, September 28, in celebration of National Public Lands Day. With the road being closed, this large-scale volunteer clean-up opportunity will allow over 500 volunteers a short window of time for stream bank and roadside trash collection, habitat restoration, and erosion control through a 13-mile section of the canyon. There will be work appropriate for ages six and up. Patagonia, Yeh & Associates, Muller Engineering Company, Concrete Express Inc. (CEI), Stream Landscape Architecture + Planning, and ERO Resources – will be on-hand to volunteer, as well as contribute to the event financially.
National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands. Held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, NPLD brings together hundreds of thousands of individual and organizational volunteers to help restore the country’s public lands. These are the places Americans use for outdoor recreation, education, and just plain enjoyment. The lands encompass national parks, monuments, wildlife refuges, forests, grasslands, marine sanctuaries, lakes, and reservoirs, as well as state, county, and city parks that are managed by public agencies, but that belong to and are enjoyed by all of us.
A celebration with food, music, and vendors will follow the volunteer clean-up effort. Numerous non-profit organizations and local companies have been invited to participate during the event and the celebration.
