District Attorney Pete Weir announced that charges have been filed in the case involving an escape from Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center in Golden in June, 2019. Quinn James Scaggs, DOB: 7-19-01, who turned 18 while on escape status, has been charged as an adult with one count of Escape (F3) and one count of Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (F4).
According to the arrest affidavit, on June 25, 2019 Golden police were called to the Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center on a report of an escape. They discovered that a window had been removed from a window in Quinn Scaggs’ room. As they searched the area, they found a bed sheet which appeared to have been used to get over the facilities' perimeter fence.
One hour later, Golden police received a call from a man saying his vehicle had been stolen from his home on 11th Street in Golden. A few hours later the vehicle was recovered, less than two miles away, in Lakewood. Police were able to tie the stolen vehicle to Quinn Scaggs.
Quinn Scaggs failed to appear for a court hearing in Jefferson County on July 1 following his escape. A warrant was issued.
Scaggs is in custody in El Paso County, having been arrested on August 26, 2019. He first court appearance in this case will be on September 23, at 10:00.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime(s). A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
