Alexander William Medina, DOB: 8-2-62, and his son Richard Angelo Medina, DOB: 7-30-82, have each been sentenced to prison in the assault of a homeless man at a bus stop in Lakewood in October, 2018. Alexander Medina was sentenced to prison for 18 years on July 18, 2019. Richard Medina was sentenced to 9 years in prison on June 24, 2019.
When Richard Medina got off a bus at Sheridan and West Colfax Avenue on October 17, 2019 he got into an argument with some people at the bus stop. Richard left and went to his father’s house, which was nearby. He (Richard) returned to the bus stop brandishing and waiving a gun to confront the individuals(s) he had had previously argued with. His father, Alexander Medina, returned with him to the bus stop. Alexander Medina was armed with a box cutter-type knife. During an altercation, Richard pistol-whipped the unarmed Mr. Bomar, hitting him in the head numerous times. Alexander then attacked Mr. Bomar with the knife, cutting his throat and stabbing him in the back.
Mr. Bormar, who was homeless at the time, suffered serious bodily injury from the stabbings by Alexander Medina and a traumatic brain injury from the assault with the handgun by Richard Medina.
Alexander Medina went to trial in June and was convicted of Attempted Murder, First Degree Assault with Serious Bodily Injury, and four violent crime counts.
Richard Medina pled guilty in April to Second Degree Assault. He was sentenced on June 24, 2019.
