District Attorney Pete Weir announced that charges have been filed in the murder of a 21-year-old man in Lakewood on June 17. Danny Carter, Jr., DOB: 5-14-83, has been charged with First Degree Murder (F1); six counts of Aggravated Robbery (F3); and five violent crime counts.
Just after 1:00 p.m. Jeffcom dispatch received a report of shots fired at 1550 Depew Street, the Mountayre Trailer Park. According to the arrest affidavit, police agents arrived to find two gunshot victims. One victim, Roderick Vecchiarelli, sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The second victim, a female, was transported and received serious, but non-fatal, injuries. A short time later, a car which matched the description of a car seen leaving the scene was involved in a collision near Sloan’s Lake. Carter was arrested near the site of the crashed vehicle at Sloan’s Lake.
According to the affidavit, Carter had gone to Roderick’s house regarding a marijuana transaction.
Carter’s first court appearance was June 18, 2019. He is being held without bond at the Jefferson County jail and is due back in court on June 27.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
