Jefferson County, CO. –The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a seatbelt enforcement operation from May 20 – June 2, 2019. The Traffic Unit and Patrol deputies will focus efforts in our south and north communities to find seatbelt violations.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received grant funds to support this proactive initiative sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and CDOT. The grant will help fund more patrol deputies during these dates to specifically enforce Colorado seatbelt laws.
A recent study indicated that in 2018, 86% of Colorado drivers wore their seatbelt. According to the same study, 53% of 382 motor vehicle accident fatalities in 2018 involved a driver or occupant who was not wearing a seatbelt.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is committed to reducing the number of motor vehicle fatalities and increasing driver safety awareness. We encourage everyone to wear their seatbelts while driving safely and responsibly.
