Jefferson County kicked off our Employee Food and Cash Drive on April 24th with a fun competition among county leadership, elected and appointed officials, and food bank representatives through a bag off event at Golden King Soopers. The competition kicks off the 25th year of the drive which benefits four area food banks - Community Table, Evergreen Christian Outreach, Light of the World, and The Action Center. This year’s drive will go from May 1-17.
This food drive helps our community members who need it most by providing adequate, nutritious food via food banks through the summer. While most kids rejoice that school’s out for summer, one out of eight Jefferson County children go hungry during summer months. For those students, school meals provide more than half of their daily calorie requirement – and access to healthy food during the summer months becomes a high priority for those Jefferson County families.
Jefferson County’s employees are encouraged to participate by donating food and/or cash. Last year, employees donated over 5,500 pounds of food (2.8 tons!) and collected nearly $6,000 for local food banks. The partnership with King Soopers offers a tremendous support and empowers our community on a larger scale than we can do on our own.
Community members interested in donating can either give money directly through each food bank's website, or contact [email protected] for drop off location information.
