[ARCHIVED] Denver Water to Begin Construction on Northwater Central Segment this Spring

The Northwater Pipeline is being installed in three phases as part of the North System Renewal project needed to update the north end of Denver Water’s system. The work is being done in a Denver Water easement that runs from Ralston Reservoir north of Golden off Highway 93 to the Moffat Site in Lakewood. Crews are installing 8.5 miles of 66-inch diameter pipe as a crucial update to an existing pipe built in the 1930s.

Construction to Begin on Central Phase

Installation of 2.8 miles of pipe in the Central Phase will span from the north side of W. 44th Avenue east of Indiana Street to Denver Water’s Van Bibber facility located on W. 60th Avenue. Work is planned to begin near the end of April at Fairmount along W. 44th Drive located in Jefferson County. The schedule may change due to weather or unforeseen issues.  Future schedule updates will be provided.

Crews are crossing four canals and four roads to install the pipeline in open trenches. In addition, there will be some drilling and other initial construction preparation in the area this spring.

See Denver Water’s tentative schedule for major road crossings and milestones.

In most cases, traffic will not be impacted. Where there is a road closure, Denver Water will communicate with first responders, local residents, and businesses to ensure access and parking are maintained.
