Jeffco Open Space (JCOS) and City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks (OSMP) recently finalized the land acquisition of the 424.6-acre Lippincott Ranch. Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) was also integral in the acquisition by providing JCOS and OSMP with a $1 million open space grant to assist with the purchase. Located off Plainview Road, the property straddles the Boulder-Jefferson county line, with 385.3 acres in Jefferson County and 39.3 acres in Boulder County.

The acquisition connects to more than 80,000 acres of other public land and includes diverse ecosystems and plant communities, as well as important wildlife habitat and corridors. The property is closed to the public for the foreseeable future while JCOS and OSMP perform inventory, integration, and management planning work.

“My family and I are very happy to have partnered with Jeffco Open Space and City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks on the acquisition of our Lippincott Ranch property,” says Lippincott family member Pat Lippincott. “It’s a comfort to know that this land will be preserved for generations to come without the threat of development. I love knowing that the property will remain the same pristine place as when I grew up.”

This purchase takes the partnership between JCOS and OSMP to new heights as the organizations equally funded the $7.75 million acquisition and will co-own and co-manage the property in perpetuity. In addition, the Boulder Municipal Property Authority (BMPA) was used to finance the acquisition over a 20-year period, reducing upfront costs for both organizations.

This purchase was approved by the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners and Boulder City Council, demonstrating both entities’ commitment to collaborative conservation and open space protection.
