A man and a woman have been charged in the kidnapping and assault of a 47-year-old Lakewood man. On November 20, Darrius Deon Holmes, DOB: 3-12-82, and Ruby Arely Serrato, DOB: 4-9-98, were each charged for their alleged roles in the offense.
On November 13, 2018 Lakewood police were called regarding an assault. The victim had numerous injuries and was transported to the hospital where he was determined to have suffered serious bodily injury.
According to the arrest affidavit, the victim had been held prisoner for two nights and assaulted repeatedly. He had previously loaned money to Ruby Serrato and was asking for her to repay the debt. On November 11, she convinced him to go with her to her room at the Crossland Motel at 715 Kipling to get the money. Once they arrived they were met by several others who demanded his property. The victim was then blindfolded, bound with rope, and taped to a chair. During the next two days and nights he was beaten, punched, and kicked. He was also tased and beaten with a chain. On November 13, they took him to his house, telling him they wanted to know where he lived, “so they could get him if he called police.” Once at his home, he managed to escape and located a citizen who called 911.
Holmes and Serrato were arrested at the Crosslands Motel on November 14. They have each been charged with numerous counts including First Degree Kidnapping (F1); Aggravated Robbery (F3); First Degree Assault(F3); Second Degree Assault (F4); and False Imprisonment(F5).
Preliminary hearing has been set on December 14 for Holmes and Serrato. Holmes is being held on $100,000 bond. Serrato is being held on $50,000 bond.
