[ARCHIVED] 2019 Small Research Grant Applications Now Open

Jeffco Open Space offers Small Research Grants to individuals or groups to conduct applied studies on Jeffco Open Space lands. The goal of this program is to fund research that will inform the management of these lands.

Past grant recipients include Adaptation Environmental Services who conducted a study titled “Prairie Rattlesnake Movements in an Urban Landscape and Assessing Visitor Perception” in North Table Mountain Park during the summer of 2017. This study used radio-telemetry to track rattlesnakes to determine their habitat usage throughout the park. It also assessed visitor knowledge and perceptions towards rattlesnakes.

Applicants may choose a priority topic suggested by Jeffco Open Space staff or propose an alternative topic of their own interest that has significance to resource management and visitor experience issues. All projects must take place on Jeffco Open Space property and investigators must provide staff with their results in a scientific report. Investigators may be asked to present to staff, visitors, or participate in a bi-annual Front Range Research Symposium.

Awards are typically in the $1,000 to $5,000 range, although in special cases grants up to $10,000 may be awarded. All research must be completed within the same year, unless otherwise approved. Multi-year projects may be considered. Researchers can also propose interagency projects to Jeffco Open Space, Boulder County Parks & Open Space, and/or City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks.

Potential applicants must contact the program coordinator, Hillary King, by December 7, 2018 at 303.271.5924 or [email protected] to discuss the feasibility of the project. Proposals are due by January 11, 2019.
