James Andrew Navarro, DOB: 9-30-81, appeared in Jefferson County District Court on October 25, 2018 where he pled guilty to Attempted Second Degree Murder following an assault on his elderly mother.
In February 2018, Lakewood police were called to 1374 Zephyr Street regarding an assault that had just occurred. They found 70-year-old Ruth Navarro with injuries to her face. She reported that her son, James Navarro, who also lived at the house, had attacked her. Leading up to the attack, Mr. Navarro had threatened and harassed his mother. She was afraid and left the house to get away from him. Mr. Navarro followed her out into the street where he grabbed her, threw her to the ground, and repeatedly punched her in the face. A man came to her assistance and let her use his phone to call 911.
Mrs. Navarro reported being strangled and she suffered a fractured orbital bone, had a tooth knocked out, and a fractured elbow.
Shortly after the attack on his mother, Mr. Navarro was observed by a passerby threatening, punching, and harassing a man in a wheel chair at a bus stop at Wadsworth and Colfax. The passerby interrupted the attack and drove to the nearby Teller Street substation of Lakewood Police Department. Mr. Navarro was contacted a few blocks away and arrested.
Sentencing has been set for December 10 at 1:00. He faces a prison sentence of from 10 to 22 years.
