Two Jefferson County departments have received the Bronze recognition from the 2018 Colorado Environmental Leadership Program (ELP).
The ELP is a statewide environmental recognition and reward program for members that voluntarily go beyond compliance with state and federal regulations and are committed to continual environmental improvement.
Each summer since 1975, youth ages 14-18 are employed for a seven-week period to maintain and improve natural surface trails, mitigate noxious weeds, and restore natural areas in Jefferson County Parks. A strong educational component is also part of the experience, helping create a stewardship ethic for the land while also creating a positive work experience. Over the years, a wide range of topics have been shared as part of this educational component such as ecology, forestry, and plant and animal identification in the Front Range.
Thank you to everyone involved in all of these projects and congratulations to the teams!
