Reports of Spoofed Robocalls from Jefferson County Offices

Spoofing is a practice of deliberately falsifying telephone number to disguise the identity of the calling party.

Jefferson County recently received reports from citizens receiving robocalls that appear to come from Jefferson County office numbers. Investigations found none of the reported calls came from Jefferson County; the calls were spoofed. Spoofing is a practice of deliberately falsifying telephone number to disguise the identity of the calling party.

Unwanted calls are a nuisance. While there is no single measure to eliminate calls completely, there are steps you can take to reduce their impact on you:

  • Answer calls only from numbers you recognize, let all other calls go to voice mail.
  • If you answer a robocall, don’t respond to the invitation to press a number to opt out.  Pressing numbers on your phone pad will verify yours is a working phone number and make you a target for more calls.
  • Add all your phone numbers to no-call lists:
