District Attorney Pete Weir has been presented with the First Judicial District Bar Association’s highest recognition, the Award of Merit. This award is presented annually to an attorney member of the First Judicial District Bar Association who primarily practices in Jefferson and Gilpin counties, and has provided distinguished service to the Bar and the community.
The Bar Association’s annual awards banquet was held on September 15. Attorneys practicing in all areas of law attend the event, including prosecutors, criminal defense attorneys, and civil attorneys
Weir is serving his second, and final, term as District Attorney in the First Judicial District, which includes Jefferson and Gilpin counties. He has 37 years of criminal justice experience in Colorado. For nearly 20 years Weir served as a front-line prosecutor and chief deputy district attorney. His career also includes having served as a District Court Judge, as the Executive Director of the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council, and in 2007, at the request of Governor Bill Ritter, Weir served on the Governor’s cabinet as Executive Director of the Department of Public Safety.
