District Attorney Pete Weir announced today that Elliot Hayden Bond, DOB: 5-12-93, has been charged in the vehicular homicide death of 15-year-old Andrew Potter in Westminster on August 31, 2018.
According to the arrest affidavit, Westminster police were called to the intersection of Church Ranch and Wadsworth Parkway on August 31 regarding a possible hit and run. The victim, Andrew Potter, died of his injuries at the scene. Police identified and located the suspect vehicle and its driver, Mr. Bond. Mr. Bond had been driving southbound on Wadsworth Parkway when he struck Andrew Potter who was crossing against the light at Church Ranch. Bond failed to stop and render aid or notify police. He continued to drive south on Wadsworth Parkway until he was contacted by police as he turned at Independence.
Mr. Bond was in court today where he was advised that he has been charged with Vehicular Homicide – DUI (F3); Leaving the Scene w/ Death (F3); and DUI. His preliminary hearing has been set for October 9 at 1:30 in Division J. Mr. Bond is out of custody on $10,000 bond.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime(s). A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
