At 6:45 p.m. on Monday, May 7, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a possible hostage situation in the 12500 block of South Highway 285. The caller, a 76-year-old male, reported his 37-year-old son was holding the caller’s wife, who is also the suspect’s mother, in their residence against her will. The elderly male was able to leave the home and call 9-1-1 from a nearby convenience store. Jeffcom dispatchers established contact with the caller’s wife and confirmed she was being held against her will by her son who was armed.
At 11:30 p.m., the Jefferson County regional SWAT team safely rescued the 69-year-old hostage through a window of her home. At 10:45 a.m. this morning, the West Metro SWAT team was able to safely enter the residence, where they found the suspect deceased by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending positive identification by the Coroner’s Office.
Both victims were unharmed during Monday night’s incident; however, the suspect’s father sustained non-life threatening injuries when assaulted by his son two days prior, on Saturday, May 5.
