Did you know there is a huge need for more foster homes in Colorado, especially in Jefferson County?
Every year in the U.S., approximately 20,000 youth will age out of the foster care system when they turn 18. Most leave without a support system or the tools they need to be successful.
On their own, these young adults must navigate the world.
While there are many families who have stepped up as foster families, there are not enough homes needed for children, especially for older children and teens. These children need – and deserve – caring adults who love and support them.
You can help!
Even though foster families have a tough job, it is worth the reward of helping a child in need of a safe and loving environment.
You can change the life of a child. We encourage you to attend a free information night to learn more.
More information:
For Jefferson County Human Services, the primary goal is to keep children home safely with their own families. If this is not possible, the next step is to work to find kin or appropriate caretakers who have an existing relationship with the child. When those steps fail, we turn to our foster families for help. On any given day, approximately 1,200 children throughout Jefferson, Douglas, and Arapahoe Counties are in some type of out-of-home care due to neglect or abuse. In addition, 146 children are awaiting foster care placement within the three counties. 85 are teenagers.
Jefferson, Douglas, and Arapahoe Counties work together to form the Collaborative Foster Care Program. This program is always searching for families who will open their hearts and homes to children in need.
