Josiah Lamarr Jones, DOB: 9-7-95, appeared in Jefferson County District Court on April 10 where he was sentenced to prison for 28 years for the death of his three-month-old daughter, Naomi Jones. Josiah Jones pled guilty to a class two felony, Child Abuse Resulting in Death on March 6, less than a week before his trial was set to begin.
On March 3, 2016 Lakewood police were called to 5353 W. 16th where they found Naomi Jones unresponsive. She was transported to Denver Health Medical Center and then transferred to Childrens’ Hospital Colorado. She died on March 6.
The infant suffered severe injuries including skull fracture, intracranial hemorrhage, bilateral subdural hematoma, and traumatic brain injury.
Josiah Jones had custody of Naomi and was her sole caregiver. He was in a difficult relationship with the child’s mother, Nicole Bellion, and had been served with a restraining order early in January, 2016. He had continued to contact Nicole through texting and social media.
Jones was on probation for felony menacing when this crime was committed. “It is unconscionable that anyone would inflict such horrific injuries upon a three-month-old infant,” said DA Pete Weir, “Mr. Jones deserves every day of his 28-year sentence.”
