On Wednesday, February 7, 2018, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigators were contacted by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office regarding an investigation of an Eagle Crest High School part-time band instructor allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old female student. It was believed the incidents occurred at the instructor’s residence in Golden in unincorporated Jefferson County.
The instructor,Geoffrey Adam Banninger, (dob 020895), was interviewed by Jefferson CountyInvestigators and subsequently arrested on suspicion of Sexual Assault on aChild by One in a Positon of Trust and for Sexual Assault on a Child, Patternof Sexual Abuse; both class 3 felonies.
Banninger, who hasbeen terminated by the Cherry Creek School District, had also been a volunteercoach with the Arvada High School Band. The Jefferson County School Districthas prohibited his access to schools and students.
Banninger had his first court appearance on February 8, 2018 and is being held on a $5000 bond.
