The Point In Time (PIT) survey is coordinated by the Metro Denver Homeless Initiative. Starting at sundown on Monday, January 29, 2018 hundreds of volunteers and agencies will mobilize across Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson counties to conduct a survey of people experiencing homelessness or who are unsheltered on that night.

The PIT survey occurs nationwide the last ten days in January, and is regionally referred to as Everyone Counts. The data is used to inform HUD and provide a snapshot of Metro Denver on a single night that helps communities understand trends and respond to the needs of people experiencing literal homelessness. In 2017, Metro Denver counted 5116 total people experiencing homelessness, with 924 of those people counted staying outside in tents, parks, vehicles or underpasses.

The more accurate the count, the better we can use our resources to end homelessness. For the upcoming 2018 count, a comprehensive count methodology will provide more reliable data. Additional expanded efforts include:

  • Magnet events to encourage persons less engaged with homeless services to be counted. Jefferson County Magnet Events will be held as follows:
    • 1/29/18 6-9 pm, at Red Rocks Church, 5210 W. Alameda, Lakewood, an Italian Dinner will be sponsored by Jefferson County Human Services.
    • 1/29/18 4-8 pm, at the Columbine Library, 7706 W. Bowles, Littleton, CO.
    • 1/30/18 11 am - 2 pm, at the Arvada Library, 7525 W. 57th, Arvada, CO.
    • 1/30/18 2:30-5:30 pm, at the Belmar Library, 555 S. Allison, Lakewood, CO.

There will be free food and giveaways at each location for those participating in the survey. If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness, please attend one of these events or call 720-898-7478 to take the survey.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact  Metro Denver Homeless Initiative to attend a training.
