Jefferson County Announces “Big Year” of Bird Watching

Big Year Logo

Jefferson County is home to an abundant variety of bird species. To celebrate and preserve these species and their habitats, the County is excited to offer a Big Year in 2018.

Join fellow community birders in identifying by sight or sound the largest number of species of birds within Jefferson County between January 1 through December 31, 2018. Participants will track their bird watching through the app, eBird. Attend classes and events throughout the year to learn more about Jefferson County bird species, connect with other birders in the community, and pick up the first edition of the Jefferson County Bird Guide at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center.

Join fellow registrants, or just learn more about the Big Year, at an open house hosted at the Jeffco Open Space office, Wednesday, January 10, 2018, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

At the end of the year, special prizes will be given to participating birders, most notably, the person who observes the most species in Jeffco!
