On Aug. 18, 1963, Margaret "Peggy" Beck, a 16-year-old Girl Scout aide, was found dead at the Flying G Ranch Girl Scout camp near Deckers. Beck, who had been sleeping alone in a tent near many other campers, had been sexually assaulted and strangled.
Through further investigation and collaboration with the Jefferson County Regional Crime Laboratory a more comprehensive DNA profile was created from evidence collected from the original crime scene. JCSO worked in partnership with United Data Connect to use forensic genetic genealogy testing, which helped lead investigators to obtain an arrest warrant for James Raymond Taylor.
