On May 19, 1976, at about 2:58 a.m., 21-year old Camp George West Honor Camp inmate Jarl Hoffman was playing billiards in the recreation building with other inmates when someone from outside, near Old Golden Road, shot him. A vehicle was seen speeding away, and five dogs were shot nearby. Two other dogs were shot at, and other gunshots were fired within a few hours before and after the homicide. Witnesses indicated that more than one person was in the vehicle involved in the shootings.
