On April 13, 1969, a family picnicking found the body of 17-year-old Joyce Neill about three miles up Golden Gate Park Road from the turn off to Crawford Gulch. Neill's body was located down an embankment from the road. She had moved to Denver from Arizona. She was working as a nurse's aid at Mercy Hospital and was living in a house in Denver with several roommates. Neill had been stabbed, possibly with a long knife.
On April 10, 1969, at about 2:30 or 3 p.m., Neill had been dropped off at City Park near the lake. According to witnesses, Neill had recently been associating with motorcycle gangs, possibly the Husky Hustlers or Iron Horseman. Neill was wearing white Levi's, a navy blue, white-striped shirt and reddish-brown moccasin boots.
