On Feb. 13, 1977, hikers discovered a body in a military-type, mummy style sleeping bag, about 100 feet over the embankment from Highway 285, a mile south of Colorado Highway 8. An autopsy indicated the male body had been there between 30 and 60 days before being discovered. The man, possibly Native American Indian, was 20 to 24 years old. He was 5 foot 7 to 5 foot 8 inches tall, weighed between 125 and 145 pounds, and he had dark brown or black hair about five inches long. The man, who had size five feet, had suffered blows to the head. His identity was never determined and dental records are not available.
The investigation revealed that in mid-December 1976, a male had come to the door of the nearby Twin Forks Motel in Tiny Town, and he asked to use a phone to get a ride to Littleton. The man's face had several minor cuts, which were bleeding. He indicated he had been in a fight with his brother and the brother made him exit the car. The man said he had kicked out the windshield in his brother's car. He used the phone, but was not able to reach anyone. He was clothed only in a shirt and pants on a very cold night. The witness provided him a coat, and the man returned a short time later, apparently with his brother, to return the coat. The identity of this man was never determined, and it is unknown if it is related to this case.
