A 28-year-old Lakewood woman has been arrested for her role in the assault of her two-year-old daughter. Melissa Nicole Mangeri, DOB: 9-14-89, was arrested on October 19 and is being held on suspicion of one count of Child Abuse Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (F3) for permitting her child to be unreasonably placed in a situation that posed a threat of injury to the child. Mangeri’s boyfriend, Joshua Gonzales, DOB:10-24-95, was arrested in September and charged with allegedly causing the injuries to the child.On September 14, 2017, Ms. Mangeri called 911 to report that her child was having a medical emergency. According to the arrest affidavit, when medical personnel arrived they found the child unresponsive and not breathing. She was transported to Denver Health Medical Center. Doctors who treated the child reported finding subdural hematoma, liver laceration, hemorrhagic shock, seizures, pulmonary contusions, rib fractures, multiple contusions, and retinal hemorrhages. Doctors also said there were injuries suggestive of strangulation.Following their original investigation in September, Joshua Gonzales was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on September 17. He has been charged with Reckless Child Abuse Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (F3).Information in the affidavit indicates that Ms. Mangeri was present during one or more of the assaults on the child and failed to seek assistance, thereby unreasonably placing the child in a situation that posed a threat of injury or death.Ms. Mangeri was arrested on October 19 and appeared in the Jefferson County Court today where she was advised of her rights. She is being held on $50,000 bond and is due back in court on October 26 at 10:00 to be advised on any charges that may be filed.
