Property Owners Urged to be Mindful of TABOR Check Fraud

Headshot of Jefferson County Treasurer Jerry Ditullio with 'treasurer update' in text

Jefferson County Treasurer Jerry DiTullio is urging community members to be vigilant and announced this week that the Treasurer’s Office was seeing about 10-12 fraudulent checks per day after TABOR refund checks were mailed out in October. While that number has slowed, staff in the treasurer’s office remain vigilant.

“Thanks to the tools and processes that our staff utilizes, none of those fraudulent checks that have come through the Treasurer’s Office have been paid out,” DiTullio said.

DiTullio says the Treasurer’s Office has measures in place to catch fraudulent checks, but the community needs to be mindful of theft.

“If you are a property owner in Jefferson County, it is important to cash your check in a timely matter,” DiTullio said. “If you are a property owner and have not yet received a check, then you should contact our office as soon as possible.”

If you believe your check may have been stolen, please notify the Jefferson County Sheriff and contact the Treasurer's Office at 303-271-8330.
