The June 2022 sale of the Denver Broncos opened opportunities for Jefferson County to invest in youth activities. With the sale, $41 million was distributed to the municipalities, cities, and counties that contributed to the stadium district tax, which was used to fund construction of the Broncos' stadium in 2001.
In September 2022, representatives from the Metropolitan Football Stadium District (MFSD) presented a check for $1.1 million to the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners. MFSD members were entitled to one-time payments with the sale of the Denver Broncos franchise. The MFSD Act and stadium lease agreement stipulates that the payment be used for “youth activity programs.”
