Monthly Jeffco Land Stewardship Series Launches in January

Jefferson County Weed and Pest and Jeffco Open Space are co-hosting a new series this year for Jeffco landowners that will provide an understanding and appreciation for Jeffco lands and their ecological benefits. This free series will consist of evening seminars held on the third Wednesday of every month, at the Jeffco Open Space office. Topics will include forest health, native plants, noxious weeds, re-vegetation and co-existing with wildlife.

The first seminar, Forest Pest Update, will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 700 Jefferson County Parkway, Suite 100, Golden, CO 80401. The presenter for this topic, Dan West, Colorado State Forest Service Entomologist, will speak about current conditions and insect pests in our evergreen forests.

Seating is limited; registration is required. Adults - 16 years and older.

The Jeffco Land Stewardship Series ties into the Jeffco Open Space mission to preserve open space and parkland, protect park and natural resources and to provide healthy, nature-based experiences. Attendees will learn how to cultivate a healthy relationship with the landscape.

Jefferson County’s Weed & Pest program provides landowners the information they need to manage invasive species on their property. Invasive species are non-native organisms that displace desirable plants, animals and insects. Colorado requires that noxious weeds and pests be controlled in order to protect our lands and natural resources.

Jeffco Open Space was founded as a land conservation organization in 1972. Our mission is to preserve open space and parkland, protect park and natural resources, and provide healthy, nature-based experiences. Funded with a one-half of one percent sales tax, our organization contributes to city and park district projects, has preserved more than 54,000 acres, and manages 28 open space parks and more than 230 miles of trails in Jefferson County, Colorado.
