During the last community meeting on November 1, 2023, at West Jefferson Middle School, Jefferson County Parks and Conservation discussed plans to establish a slash (woody debris) drop site adjacent to and in conjunction with Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District Station #3 on Settlers Drive. Description of the pending land exchange between Jefferson County and Terra Investments, Inc., and the need to terminate Protective Covenants on the parcels prior to transfer. After further review of these documents, termination is not necessary to complete the exchange or to establish the slash drop site, and the transfer of parcels is scheduled for mid-February.
Once the land exchange is complete, Jefferson County will begin planning and design for the slash site, which requires Location and Extent approval from Jefferson County Planning and Zoning. Terra Investments, Inc. intends to transfer its property to Turkey Creek Recreation Association to be used for outdoor recreation fields/courts. These sites will allow local fire districts and residents to drop off woody debris and chips from wildfire mitigation projects for most of the year. Additionally, it will allow for multi-purpose artificial turf fields to enable community sports programs to practice on.
Please review this concise handout that explains the process and next steps in further detail.
