The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office has formally filed charges against Ian Fitzgerald O’Connor, 32, in the alleged vehicular homicide death of a 53-year-old Wheat Ridge man last month.On August 29, 2017 Colorado State Patrol troopers were called to a vehicle versus motorcycle collision on Hwy. 285 at C470. According to the arrest affidavit, both Ian O’Connor, DOB: 10-15-85 and Paul Dacko, Sr. were driving northbound on Hwy. 285 prior to the collision. Witness observed that Mr. O’Connor was driving recklessly before he came up from behind the motorcycle driven by Paul Dacko, Sr. Mr. O’Connor crashed into the motorcycle. He continued driving several hundred feet, pushing the motorcycle with his car, before he hit a concrete barrier causing Mr. Dacko to be thrown into the southbound lanes of Hwy. 285. Mr. O’Connor didn’t stop; he continued driving with the motorcycle underneath his car until it would go no further. Mr. O’Connor then ran from the collision scene.Mr. Dacko, Sr. died from his injuries.According to the arrest affidavit, Mr. O’Connor was contacted by law enforcement at the Phillips 66 gas station in Morrison shortly after the collision. He was transported to the hospital and was then arrested.The Denver man has been charged with Leaving the Scene with Death (F3); Vehicular Homicide - DUI (F3); Vehicular Homicide - Reckless (F4); DUI 3 or more (M); Reckless Driving (TO2); No Proof of Insurance (TO1); Fictitious Plates (TO2); Failure to Report Accident (TO2); Striking Traffic Device (TO2); and Unregistered Vehicle (TIB).Mr. O’Connor posted $100,000 bond on August 30, 2017. His next scheduled court appearance is preliminary hearing on October 6, at 8:30.
