Michelle Bialas Sentenced to 24 Years Prison for Domestic Violence Stabbing in Black Hawk

Michelle Bialas

Michelle ReNae Bialas, DOB: 5-23-62, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for stabbing her ex-boyfriend, James Bynum, at the home they had previously shared in Black Hawk.

On January 17, 2017 Ms. Bialas went to the house at 305 Genevas Way in Black Hawk. She knocked at the door and when James Bynum opened it, she pushed in and attacked him. She used some type of blade and slashed the back of his head before he was able to get away from her and call police. The injury required 17 staples.

When the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they located Ms. Bialas just outside the property line on the floorboard of her car. Ms. Bialas was very intoxicated and uncooperative with law enforcement.

Mr. Bynum and Ms. Bialas were involved in an intimate relationship for almost 20 years until December, 2016. They had a history of domestic violence, including numerous instances in which Ms. Bialas was the primary aggressor. At the time of this assault, Ms. Bialas was restrained from having contact with Mr. Bynum as a result of an existing domestic violence case.

Ms. Bialas and Mr. Bynum had built the house on Genevas Way together and she had lived in the house with him until a domestic violence incident in September, 2016.

A Gilpin County jury found the Rollinsville woman guilty of four counts in the stabbing of Mr. Bynum on July 19. On August 25, she was sentenced to 24 years in prison for First Degree Assault (F3); Second Degree Assault (F3); First Degree Burglary (F3); and Violation of Protection Order (M1). She was acquitted of Attempted Murder (F2).
