Michelle Bialas, 55, was convicted by a Gilpin County jury of four counts in the stabbing of her ex-boyfriend in January, 2017.
A Gilpin County jury found a 55-year-old Rollinsville woman guilty in the stabbing of her ex-boyfriend, James Bynum, DOB: 8-22-53, at their home in January, 2017.According to testimony during the three-day jury trial, Michelle ReNae Bialas, DOB: 5-23-62, went to the house at 305 Genevas Way in Black Hawk, on January 17. She knocked at the door and when Mr. Bynum opened it, she pushed in and attacked him. She used some type of blade and slashed the back of his head before he was able to get away from her and call police. The injury required 17 staples.When the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they located Ms. Bialas just outside the property line on the floorboard of her car. The jury heard testimony that Ms. Bialas was very intoxicated and uncooperative with law enforcement. They found a bottle of vodka in her front seat.Mr. Bynum and Ms. Bialas were involved in an intimate relationship for almost 20 years until December, 2016. They had a history of domestic violence, including numerous instances in which Ms. Bialas was the primary aggressor. At the time of this assault, Ms. Bialas was restrained from having contact with Mr. Bynum as a result of an existing domestic violence case.Ms. Bialas and Mr. Bynum had built the house on Genevas Way together and she had lived in the house with him until a domestic violence incident in September, 2016.The jury found her guilty of First Degree Assault (F3); Second Degree Assault (F3); First Degree Burglary (F3); and Violation of Protection Order (M1). She was acquitted of Attempted Murder (F2).Sentencing has been set for August 25, at the Gilpin County Courthouse.
