[ARCHIVED] JCPH’s Valerie Carberry Receives NFP DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Jefferson County, CO — Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) is honored to announce Valerie Carberry, Public Health Nurse and Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) home visitor at JCPH, has received the NFP DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses. Valerie is only the fourth NFP nurse to have received this top recognition since the award was established last year.

Supported by Invest in Kids, a non-profit to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable children and families, the NFP DAISY Award recognizes nurses who have made a positive and lasting impact on the lives of mothers and babies in Colorado. The NFP DAISY is awarded on a quarterly basis and all NFP nurses in the state can be nominated.

Valerie was nominated by her supervisor for her outstanding quality of care, leadership and professionalism, as well as her unwavering commitment to helping others live healthier, happier lives.

“Valerie has a unique and special ability to meet patients exactly where they are — both literally and figuratively,” said Karey Riemersma, Nursing Supervisor, Nurse-Family Partnership at JCPH. “Sometimes that means traveling to serve patients at a home, hospital or park. Other times it means meeting clients in unseen places that are most difficult to inhabit, like depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, low self-esteem, developmental disabilities and trauma.”

NFP is a free prenatal and early childhood nurse home visitation program for first-time mothers and their babies who meet certain financial guidelines.

“We are proud to help mothers and their babies get off to a healthy start through NFP and other services,” said Dr. Mark Johnson, Executive Director of JCPH. “But we can’t do it without nurses like Valerie who work hard to provide the best care and support each and every day.”
