It is estimated that one in every four American children participates in a child support program. The purpose of National Child Support Month is to raise awareness highlighting the importance of parents’ involvement in their children’s lives and the responsibility parents have to provide the resources their children need to succeed.
The goal of the Colorado Child Support Program is to ensure all children receive financial support from each parent and that the children have medical insurance coverage. This is accomplished by locating each parent, establishing paternity and support obligations, and enforcing those obligations.
With the help of programs such as the Fatherhood Program, dads (and moms) get assistance in identifying and overcoming barriers they face in maintaining a positive role in children's lives, becoming and maintaining current on financial obligations to their children, and finding on-going support in the community.
Jefferson County Child Support Services is honoring the month by raising awareness about the importance of child support, how it works, and the resources available. This month is also a time to salute parents who work hard to ensure their children have the brightest future possible. Snacks and beverages are being offered in the Jefferson County Child Support offices for customers throughout the month.
