JCSO Investigation Leads to Arrest in Australia

Cheezo Parent Booklet 2017

In March of 2019, JSCO investigators learned of a 13-year-old student receiving an inappropriate photo from a male. The Sheriff’s Office child sex offender internet investigations unit known as CHEEZO took over the victim’s persona. The suspect sent more inappropriate images of himself to the investigator portraying the victim. In May of 2019, the suspect was identified as Milgate Primary School teacher Liam Wilkinson of Warrandyte, Victoria in Australia.
Our investigators worked with Interpol and the Australian Federal Police who executed a search warrant and ultimately filed charges on Wilkinson. On March 28, 2021, one of our investigators provided pre-trial testimony for the case via video conferencing to the Australian court. The testimony given was so compelling that afterward, Wilkinson decided to plead guilty to the charge of using a carriage service to transmit indecent material to a child.
This is one more example of how the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is ensuring our community is a safe place to live, learn, work, and play. To learn more about the Cheezo unit please visit
