[ARCHIVED] New Location for Clothing Bank Now Open

TAC Logo

The Action Center has opened the clothing bank in a new, larger location near Colfax and Wadsworth.

Why a new location?

Over the past several months, we have worked hard to address clothing needs in a variety of ways in our current facility and have not been able to continuously provide a safe service that fully meets our participants' needs. Our participants responded to a survey demonstrating a significant need in the community for clothing and a willingness to go to a different location.   The Action Center had a great opportunity to do a short-term lease at minimal cost which has allowed us to try out a satellite location.  Not to mention, this space is much larger and allows us to serve more people safely.

When will the location open?

The new clothing bank is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:30am-11:30am and 1pm-3pm. Volunteer shifts will be 9:15am-12pm and 12:45pm-3:30pm on those days.

Where?

The address is 1565 Wadsworth, on the west side of Wadsworth north of Colfax, next to Pattaya Thai and Romantix. This is the same location as our holiday shop if you participated in that event.

How long will the new location be open?

This is a pilot program that could last as long as 9 months.

Who can use the clothing bank?

The clothing bank will be open to anyone in the community who needs assistance and participants will be able to come to the clothing bank one time per month.

Does this mean you are accepting clothing donations on the dock?

We will start accepting donations of clean, gently used clothing that is in season. Please check our website for updates.

What safety measures will be in place?

Hand sanitizer, face shields, masks, and gloves will be available for volunteers and participants. Participants, staff, and volunteers must wear masks and will have their temperature checked when they arrive. Participants will be also be required to use hand sanitizer or wear gloves when they enter. We will limit the number of staff, volunteers, and participants so that people can practice social distancing. A maximum of 8 participants in the front part of the shopping space and only 4-8 volunteers working at a time as well as two staff members on site.

How can you help?

Volunteers will be critical in helping us staff the site! There will be two roles for volunteers at the site: (1) Staffing the clothing bank and helping participants check in and out and (2) Hanging clothes in the back room without contact with participants. Both spaces are very large allowing for people to spread out even more than recommended by the CDC. Clothing sorting will still take place at the main location of The Action Center and the sorted clothes will be transported to the new location for hanging.

If you are interested in volunteering for either role, sign up here.

Other ways to help:

If you are trained on our Captain database, you could do data entry from home and you will need to pick up the tickets. We will also need t-shirt bags so you can sew these at home and drop them off at our dock. Please email Kerri if you are interested, we would love to have your help!
