Fifty-seven Inmates Test Positive for COVID-19

Jefferson County, CO.  The Jefferson County Detention Facility currently has 57 inmates and 13 staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19. A few inmates in general population modules recently began displaying symptoms and were immediately isolated. All inmates in the two affected modules have since been tested. Inmates who have tested positive are isolated and are frequently monitored by medical staff; most are asymptomatic. Inmates who tested negative have been moved to unaffected areas of the facility.

Sheriff Jeff Shrader explains, “The health and safety of inmates and staff is our top priority, and we are disappointed to be experiencing a second outbreak of COVID-19 in our jail. We have taken numerous measures to stop this disease from affecting individuals in our custody, and we will continue to seek ways to prevent its spread.”

COVID testing is conducted almost daily in the detention facility, with 5 – 50 results pending each day. Currently, results are received in approximately 7 – 9 days. The Jefferson County Detention Facility continues to follow CDC, CDPHE, and Jeffco Public Health guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19 in a congregate living facility.
