(Golden, CO – September 10, 2020) Two juveniles have been charged as adults in the shooting deaths of two brothers in a Walmart parking lot on August 23, 2020. Michael Anthony Mendoza, 17, DOB/11-2-02, and Marqueil Deandre Banks, 16, DOB: 8-17-04, have each been charged with ten counts, including First Degree Murder, in the deaths of 18-year-old Damian Wikoff and 17-year-old and Dillon Wikoff.
On August 23, 2020 Lakewood Police were called to the Walmart at 7455 W. Colfax Avenue regarding a shooting. According to the arrest affidavit, they found Damian and Dillon lying in the parking lot. They appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to the hospital where they died from their injuries.
Banks has been charged with four counts of First Degree Murder; two counts of Aggravated Robbery; Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender; Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile – Second Offense; and two violent crime counts. Mendoza has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder; two counts of Aggravated Robbery; Second Degree Assault; Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile; and four violent crime counts.
Both are being held without bond. They are due back in court on September 17, 2020.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime(s). A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
