District Attorney Pete Weir announced today that charges have been filed in the murder of 22-year-old Joseph Elsey in Arvada. Tyler Ray Condit, DOB: 1-22-89, appeared in court on September 9, 2020 to be advised that he has been charged with First Degree Murder – After Deliberation (F1); Tampering with a Deceased Human Body (F3); Tampering with Physical Evidence (F6); and two Violent Crime counts.
On August 29, 2020 Arvada police were called to an apartment at 6462 Simms Street regarding a suspicious incident. According to the arrest affidavit, they observed blood and signs of an attempted clean-up. Investigators learned that Mr. Elsey lived at the apartment and that Tyler Condit had recently moved in. They were unable to locate Mr. Elsey. He was last seen on August 24, 2020.
According to the Arvada Police Department’s news release, the body of Mr. Elsey was recovered on September 6, 2020 in Clear Creek County.
Tyler Condit is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Court jail. He has a preliminary hearing set on October 9, 2020 at 9:00.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime(s). A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
