Richard Lee Karr, DOB: 9-10-74, appeared in Jefferson County District Court on August 7, 2020 where he was sentenced to prison for 13 years for a brutal assault of his wife with a baseball bat.
On June 10, 2019 Wheat Ridge police were called to the 3600 block of Harlan on a report of a domestic violence assault. They found Karr outside the house. He told police that his wife was inside and he had assaulted her with a baseball bat. The 44-year-old woman was transported to the hospital. She suffered serious injuries, including multiple spinal fractures.
Karr had previously strangled his wife and threatened her with a gun.
“To repeatedly beat his wife with a baseball bat demonstrates an alarming degree of violence,” said DA Pete Weir, “We are determined to expand resources to victims of violence who are reluctant to come forward. Our family justice center, PorchLight, will open this fall, and will offer valuable, life-saving alternatives for vulnerable victims, all under one roof.”
Karr pled guilty on July 8, 2020 to Attempted Second Degree Murder (F3) and Menacing (F5).
