District Attorney Pete Weir announced that charges have been filed against Donovan Thorne Walsh, DOB: 4-24-77, in the death of his 32-year-old ex-girlfriend, Alicia Banks-Newton. Walsh appeared in court today and was advised that he has been charged with nine counts, including First Degree Murder (F1); Tampering with a Deceased Human Body (F3); Tampering with a Witness (F4); and Violation of a Protection Order (M1).
On June 5, 2020, Arvada police conducted a welfare check on Alicia Banks-Newton at 7655 W. 67th Avenue. They did not find her at her home. According to the arrest affidavit, Ms. Banks-Newton had a protective order prohibiting Donovan Walsh from contacting her. The Arvada detectives’ investigation into her disappearance led them to Donovan Walsh.
Walsh was located and arrested in Globe, Arizona on June 6, 2020. He was extradited back to Colorado on July 8th and is being held without bail at the Jefferson County jail. He is due back in court on August 6 at 8:00 for a motions hearing.
