(Golden, CO – July 6, 2020) Ikhide Innis Ikhigbonoaremen, DOB: 10-16-88, appeared in court today and was charged with First Degree Murder – After Deliberation and two violent crime counts in the shooting death of 31-year-old Tyler Matus.
On June 26, 2020 Westminster police were called to 7948 90th Avenue on a report of a shooting. They found Tyler Matus lying on the ground. He appeared to have sustained one or more gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the arrest affidavit, Ikhigbonoaremen and Matus were roommates and had argued earlier in the evening about roommate issues. Shortly before police were called, Matus and Ikhigbonoaremen were involved in a fight. This resulted in Mr. Ikhigbonoaremen being knocked to the ground. He got up and fired two shots from his gun, hitting Mr. Matus.
Ikhigbonoaremen is being held without bond at the Jefferson County jail. He is due back in court on July 7, 2020 for a motions hearing.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime(s). A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
